When You Feel Like Giving Up!
Have you ever felt like you just couldn’t keep going? That feeling of total exhaustion is discouraging. There are times where we are just tired of feeling tired. We have so much going on. Your list of stuff you have to do constantly roll over in your mind. God is there for you when you feel like quitting.
He knows our weak frame and He will help us when we feel like giving up. He not only calls us to persevere, but He will help us persevere. You are not in this alone! "For he knows our frame; he remembers that we are dust." Psalms 103:14
I AM TOO TIRED
I know this feeling- When you don’t want to get out of bed. You’d rather pull the covers over your head to drown out the alarm. Staying in your pajamas and not doing anything to your hair may sound like a dream come true. I have felt like I can’t possibly do ‘it’ another day. I had no energy and the coffee pot just wasn’t doing it for me.
These are times where we need to be reminded that God is our strength. Knowing God will enable you to do what you have to do takes some weight off of the shoulders. In reality, sometimes we just can’t stop and drop everything. However, God is still the giver of all good things.
Will He not provide for you the ability to do what He has called you to do? We have not because we ask not. Be honest with Him, and ask that He will renew your strength. "but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." Isaiah 40:31
I HAVE SO MUCH TO DO
The overwhelming feeling of a full to-do list can be draining in itself. Time flies and that list never actually stops growing. More things need to be added. It can seem impossible when you look at it as a whole.
God has not called you do to next Friday’s work. He has called you to do today's work. The hymn, 'I need Thee every hour' is a great reminder. God has given you the grace to do what you need to do at this very moment.
Stressing about tomorrow will not provide you any more help. It is actually distracting you from doing today’s work. Focus on one task at a time, while leaning on God for help. What is it you need to do right now? Do it. That is all you are called to do. That is all you can actually do! He will provide you with more grace when you need it. Trust Him!
IT IS NEVER ENDING
It feels like it is never going to stop. That can be the most frustrating and stressful thing. Singles, married, parents, students- it doesn’t matter. It will never end. When I was in High school, I thought that after graduating, life would be so easy. You know, because being a teenager was the hardest thing ever. Goodness, I didn’t know anything!
Then in college, I thought the same. If I can just graduate, life would be easier. I was tired of exams! Then, working life happened… and bills. I wasn’t prepared. Then comes marriage for some and then kids. I realized life doesn’t stop!
We also have a Father that is eternal. He will never stop being! There is an endless supply of strength for you. He is more than able to carry you through life. You are not responsible for keeping yourself. He is! He saved you from your sin by grace. You couldn’t do that. In the same way, He will keep you by grace.
Acknowledge God in every task, and He will direct it. He will not leave you. You are not left with all of your responsibilities by yourself. He is there. Walk with Him!
NO TIME TO REST
Sometimes we literally can’t stop what we are doing to go sit in a warm bath. However, it is good for your physical body to rest. God actually commanded a Sabbath. He knows we need rest. You are not honoring God by being too busy to obey this command. It is not laziness, it is obedience!
All of God’s commandments are good. Taking time to rest will help restore your body so that you won’t feel like giving up. You feel like giving up because you are empty of strength. You need to rest your body and feed yourself spiritually.
Taking time to rest spiritually is just as important as it is to do physically. We rest, by sitting at His feet and reading His word- Praying and worshipping Him. This doesn’t have to be a whole day (though that would be nice).
This could be 30 mins in the morning with the Lord. This could also be a 20-minute nap or bath. Rest is not just needed it is commanded. God has done this for our good.
Don’t GIVE UP
I hope you are encouraged to not give up, but to keep persevering in Christ. God didn’t tell us it would be easy. He did tell us we will not be left alone. When we are tired, He provides us with the strength to persevere. Ask Him to give you this.
Take it day by day, God’s grace is sufficient for you. Live off of today’s grace. Also, it is okay to stay in your pajamas for the day. Don’t feel guilty for that. You might need to add that to your to-do list!!! Be led by the Spirit.
The feelings of wanting to give up visits all of us at some point. We have a God to take refuge in. We can hide under the shadow of His wings. Persevere, for you will receive the crown of life in the end!
"Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him." James 1:12
